Welcome! Edward Omondi Joins The Witherell as Director of Nursing

Please join us in welcoming Edward Omondi as the Witherell’s new Director of Nursing! The quality, compassion, and attentiveness of our nursing staff is a point of pride. With Ed on board, our 200+ nursing managers, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and certified nursing assistants will benefit from his leadership experience and extensive background in clinical care. What that means for our residents is more good news—the Witherell will continue to deliver the nursing excellence we’re known for.

Prior to joining the Witherell, Ed was Program Manager-Medication Manager for Pro-Health Physicians in Farmington, CT where he managed a nursing team that maintained refills, renewals, and prior authorizations for 90+ practices statewide. In that role, he was able to reduce potential medication errors by 46% across those practices.

“Ed brings diverse experience in patient care and safety, and in establishing procedures that will enhance productivity and efficiency to the Witherell,” says Allen Brown, Executive Director of The Nathaniel Witherell. “He’s a strong leader and effective manager. We’re thrilled to welcome him aboard.”

A former Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve Nurse Corps, Ed served for six years overseeing 200+ medical doctors, pharmacists, nurses, dentists, radiology technicians and combat medics. During his military career, he was selected to serve as Bravo Company Commander and Hurricane Sandy Resource Commander.

Ed Omondi began his career as an RN at Yale New Haven Hospital and was a shift supervisor across medical oncology and four Intensive Care Units. He also held managerial positions with Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT. Ed was also a Patient Service Manager in the medical and hematology/oncology unit of Yale New Haven Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven.

Born and raised in Mombasa Kenya, Ed was a junior class sailing champion. He was also chosen to represent Kenya at ISAF Volvo Youth Worlds in Sydney Australia. With Ed’s impressive career and the dedication he’s shown as a competitive athlete, we expect his transition to the Witherell to be smooth sailing!
