Witherell at Home Proves to be Just What the Doctor Ordered

You’ve completed short-term rehabilitation for surgery or an injury, and now it’s time to go home. But, if you’re like most, you could use support while you’re on the mend. Though you’re feeling better, things like meal preparation, light housekeeping, grooming, or transportation could be a challenge.

We’ve got a plan for that.

Last April, The Nathaniel Witherell introduced a new service called Witherell at Home to provide non-medical home care for newly discharged short-term rehabilitation residents. We’re happy to report that after only eight months, Witherell at Home is gaining ground, successfully fulfilling an important need for our clients.

“Witherell at Home takes the guesswork out of selecting at-home care upon discharge,” notes Allen Brown, executive director of The Nathaniel Witherell. “By partnering with DanielCare Caring Choice, we’re assured that the care provided is of the highest quality. Our residents appreciate the convenience, and interest in the service continues to grow.”

Nathaniel Witherell short-term rehabilitation residents can opt for live-in support or for hourly services. After requesting Witherell at Home services, residents receive a one-on-one consultation right at the Witherell to discuss their needs. Then, once a caregiver has been identified, a second “introduction” meeting is held at the Witherell prior to discharge.

“We’re thrilled with the interest we’ve received to date,” notes Daniel Kraus, executive director at DanielCare Caring Choice. “We’re on site at the Witherell to assist in the transition home, and to answer any questions. We’ve had wonderful feedback that clients appreciate the ease of arranging for safe, reliable, and personalized care. It’s one less thing to worry about.”

The Nathaniel Witherell’s short-term rehabilitation facility was recently awarded a “High Performing” distinction from U.S. News & World Report for 2018-2019. This new rating aims to provide patients with a clearer view of the quality of care provided to short-stay patients in need of intensive rehabilitation or nursing services before they return home after a surgery, stroke, accident or illness. Out of nearly 13,000 nursing homes that were evaluated, 2,042 earned a High-Performing rating in Short-Stay Rehabilitation. The Nathaniel Witherell consistently ranks as a “Top Nursing Home” by U.S. News & World Report, too.
