In December, Our Halls Were Decked With Holiday Cheer!
The Witherell is known as a bright and bustling place during the holidays, and this year was no exception. Although we missed having family on hand for gift exchanging and special events, we still had lots of festive fun while also knowing we were staying safe and healthy. Once again, our therapeutic recreation department, helmed by Carissa Ronish, and our volunteer coordinator, Mary Tate, pulled out all the stops, even donning ugly Christmas sweaters! The pandemic may have shifted our plans, but it certainly didn’t dash our spirits.
Here is a look at some of the festivities in December. These activities, along with our innovative outdoor visitation pods for winter family visits, are providing the hope, joy, and engagement we need to thrive this winter!
Tree Trimming
We channeled “Martha Stewart” this year—carefully hanging beautiful ornaments with an assist from our Housekeeping staff—and this year’s tree was a real beauty!
The Festival of Lights
Our Hanukkah celebration kicked-off for Jewish residents on the evening of December 10th with the support of The Greenwich Reform Synagogue and Jewish Family Services in Greenwich. Our residents received cards and gifts, and enjoyed greetings, blessings, prayer and song via iPads.
Holiday Portraits
We took beautiful holiday portraits for many residents. We then color printed and mailed them to their families along with holiday cards. Everyone enjoyed sitting pretty and saying cheese!
And Ugly Sweaters!
It’s a holiday tradition we can’t get enough of. Every year our staff searches for the most over the top sweaters and vests or they make their own. The results bring a smile to everyone’s face as we admire these creations that take holiday cheer to a whole, new level!
