July is a Big Month for Music at The Nathaniel Witherell
One look at the special events featured in The Nathaniel Witherell’s July recreation calendar and you can tell our halls are alive with the sound of music—practically every day!
Among the musical treats scheduled for Witherell residents is a piano concert by classical concert pianist David Sacks that takes place this Friday, July 15, at 3 pm. A native of Greenwich, Sacks is a 16-year-old prodigy with an extensive repertoire that includes Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Debussy, Bartok, Ravel, and Chopin. The young pianist has quite a list of accomplishments for his age, including recitals at Manhattan School of Music’s Greenfield Hall and the 92 Street Y’s Young Artist Concert Series. In addition, he’s performed frequently at Steinway Hall and the Summit Music Festival at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY. We’re excited to have him return to the Witherell!
Also coming up is a much-anticipated performance by Patty Carver, a professional singer, actress, and writer with international credits. On her forthcoming visit to the Witherell on Monday, July 25, at 2 pm, Carver will perform a Mary Martin tribute show, singing hits from beloved Broadway classics such as South Pacific, Peter Pan, and The Sound of Music. Get ready to enjoy such popular tunes as “I’ll Never Grow Up,” “I’m Flying,” and “I’m in Love with A Wonderful Guy.” Carver, who has entertained our residents on several previous visits to the Witherell, has performed in New York, Los Angeles, and London, and has been seen across the country in regional, stock, and dinner theatre. She has also sung in clubs and cabarets in New York City and along the East Coast.

Musicians also come twice a week to entertain residents on our third floor unit for those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia-related illnesses.
“In addition to music, we also have lectures on art, history, and travel, plus current event discussions, religious services, exercise classes, bingo, and much more,” says Mary Bruce, Witherell’s therapeutic recreation director. “In a typical month there are over 100 programs and events that have been put together after an extensive assessment of residents’ individual capabilities and interests.”
Sounds like fun? It really is! All events are listed on Witherell’s calendar of events, which is included in the monthly printed newsletter and also posted on the homepage of Witherell’s website at nathanielwitherell.org (David Sacks and Nicole Allison are late additions).
