Recuperation after heart surgery, heart attack (MI), congestive heart failure (CHF), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
When you are admitted to The Witherell for cardiac rehab we give you a clinical needs assessment, conducted by our highly trained nursing staff. It includes pain management and post-op care if applicable. Typically, within 24 hours of admission, a thorough physical and occupational evaluation will be completed.
The evaluation results in a prescribed individualized, coordinated treatment plan. Your team includes your surgeon, attending physician, RN patient care coordinator, certified nursing assistants (CNA) and discharge planner. Once the plan is in place you will be assigned a primary physical and occupational therapist. The objective of the plan is to provide therapy until you reach your individual tolerance level. Rehab is offered five days a week with the goal of increasing functional capacity, improving quality of life, and instilling a sense of independence and optimism. Rehab typically consists of a carefully monitored structured exercise program, including oxygen and blood pressure monitoring. State of the art techniques and equipment are utilized. Stationary bikes and the treadmill are frequently part of the treatment.
