Short-Term Rehab

Neurological

Rehabilitation after back surgery, spinal cord injury, stroke (CVA), Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

When you are admitted to Witherell for neurological rehab you receive a clinical needs assessment conducted by our highly trained nursing staff. It will include pain management and post-op care if applicable. Typically, within 24 hours of admission a thorough physical and occupational evaluation will be completed.

The evaluation results in a prescribed individualized, coordinated treatment plan. Your team includes your surgeon, attending physician, RN patient care coordinator, certified nursing assistants (CNA) and discharge planner. Once the plan is in place you will be assigned a primary physical and occupational therapist.

  • The objective of the plan is to provide therapy until you reach your individual treatment goals, with the objective to return to maximum functioning potential.
  • Neurological therapy consists of physical and occupational therapy six days a week and speech therapy up to four days a week.
  • Treatment plans begin with specific education related to diagnosis. Fitting of hand or foot braces, balance and gait training, upper and lower body trunk strengthening, swallowing evaluations, and exercises as well as oral motor exercises and thermal stimulation are also utilized.
  • Home environmental assessments are issued prior to discharge.
