Signature Lecture Series Event on Aging Announced in Celebration of Older Americans Month
“The Challenges and Opportunities of an Aging Society” – speaker Dr. John Rowe – to take place May 19th at the Greenwich Library
Mark your calendars! Friends of Nathaniel Witherell is joining with the Greenwich Commission on Aging, Greenwich Library, and Sterling Care to co-sponsor a Signature Lecture Series Event on Aging in celebration of Older Americans Month. The talk, focusing on “The Challenges and Opportunities of an Aging Society,” will be held at the Greenwich Library’s Cole Auditorium on Thursday, May 19th at 7 pm.
The featured speaker for this event – Dr. John Rowe – is the Julius B. Richmond Professor of Health Policy and Aging at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and former Chairman and CEO of Aetna, Inc. Previously, Dr. Rowe served as President and CEO of Mount Sinai NYU Health and was professor of Medicine and founding Director of the Division on Aging at the Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Rowe will address how dramatic increases in life expectancy and aging raise the question of how best to re-engineer America’s core societal institutions, such as education, work, retirement, leisure, and health care to assure that our society can support the future elderly population.
“We are honored to have a speaker of Dr. Rowe’s caliber address our community regarding these issues,” said Lori Contadino, Director, Greenwich Commission on Aging. “Dr. Rowe’s insights will not only educate our community, but will also help the Commission on Aging lay the groundwork for its vision – to build an educated and cohesive community that understands, accepts, and supports the successful aging of its residents and embraces the inter-generational opportunities that come with increased longevity.”
Following the lecture there will be a Q & A with Dr. Rowe. Light refreshments will be provided. The lecture is free of charge, however seating is limited and registration is recommended. Please resister at www.eventseries.org or call (203) 532-0500.
