The Witherell Meets the Needs of an Aging Greenwich

The Witherell Meets the Needs of an Aging Greenwich

There’s much to love about the Town of Greenwich. In fact, Greenwich is so beloved that now more than ever, Greenwich’s senior population is opting to age right here in town, gracefully. It might surprise some to know that 18% of Greenwich’s citizens are 65 or older.  In fact, we are home to more seniors than nearby cities like Stamford and Norwalk, and the rest of Connecticut. And, as access to healthcare and a high quality of life remain hallmarks of our town, our senior population will grow exponentially in the coming years.

As our citizenry ages, the need is heightened for high quality senior care, whether it’s for short-term rehabilitation after an illness, injury or hospitalization; skilled nursing when  older adults can no longer reside safely at home; or Memory Care for those suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia-related illnesses.

“At the Witherell, we’re not just treating a condition, we’re supporting individuals who have reached a certain stage in their lives and require specialized care,” notes John Mastronardi, executive director. “The healthcare needs of older adults are complex, and care needs to be individualized to address the well-being of the whole person, both physically and emotionally.”

In the 118 years that The Nathaniel Witherell has been operating, our healthcare model has stood apart. As the only short-term rehabilitation and skilled nursing facility owned and operated by a municipality in the State of Connecticut, we’re an important resource for our aging Greenwich population. We’re here for our neighbors to provide the highest level of senior care, right in the community.

While you might not need the Witherell today, chances are you will in the future. That’s why the Witherell continues to grow and evolve, modernizing our facilities, adding specialties, and welcoming highly trained healthcare professionals who let us provide a range of specialized services right under our roof.

“The Witherell is nationally-recognized as a ‘Best Nursing Home’ by U.S. News & World Report, and we hold a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid,” says Mastronardi. “We’re more than a warm and welcoming place, our facility is also one of the top senior care facilities in the region.”

Having easy access to care, especially for seniors, is an asset to any community. For Greenwich—a town where the senior population is exploding—it’s even more important so that our aging citizens can thrive. That’s why the Witherell is here, and that’s why we’ll always be an important part of the culture and commitment to the Town of Greenwich.
